Md Shahin Sagor, Rajshahi: A six-year-old girl from Tanore and a man from Rajshahi’s Rajpara were able to obtain Indian visas after facing difficulties in travelling to India for medical treatment, following assistance from the Assistant High Commission of India in Rajshahi.

The girl’s father, Mahatab Ali Mehedi, from Mathurapur area of Tanore upazila, went to the Indian Assistant High Commission in the city on Thursday morning with his daughter, Muntaha Sidratul.

Muntaha has been suffering from a brain-related condition and has been advised by specialist doctors to seek advanced treatment in India. However, visa-related complications had left the family uncertain about whether she could be taken to India in time for treatment.

Mahatab met Indian Assistant High Commissioner Manoj Kumar at the office located at House No. 316 in Padma Residential Area and explained his daughter’s medical condition and the family’s difficulties.

After hearing the case, the assistant high commissioner arranged the visa on humanitarian grounds, according to the family.

“We were extremely worried about my daughter’s treatment. Due to the visa complications, we were uncertain whether we would be able to arrange her treatment in time. We are sincerely grateful to the Indian assistant high commissioner for considering our situation and arranging the visa promptly,” Mahatab said.

On the same day, Shariful Islam, a resident of Miapur area under Rajpara Police Station, also visited the assistant high commission seeking a visa to travel to India for treatment.

Shariful has been suffering from a long-standing stomach ailment. He became seriously unwell with severe abdominal pain on Wednesday evening and later contacted the assistant high commissioner after receiving his contact number from a neighbour.

He was asked to visit the office on Thursday and was subsequently provided assistance with his visa, he said.

“I was in severe pain yesterday evening because of my illness. I contacted the assistant high commissioner after getting his number from a neighbour. I received prompt assistance after coming here today,” Shariful said.

The visa arrangements have enabled both patients to travel to India for the medical treatment they require. Their families expressed relief following the assistance from the Indian Assistant High Commission in Rajshahi.
